Beneath the Surface was a magical evening that brought together 10 talented artists and the vibrant Nosara community. The exhibition showcased a diverse array of mediums, from oil paintings, watercolors, block prints, wooden works to intricate raku technique ceramics. We are so glad that despite the weather, rain or shine, the community showed up in full support, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm during the opening.
Early in 2024 my dear friends over at Campo reached out to me with an invitation to participate in a group art show to be held at El Estudio in June. At that moment I had various complex ceramics pieces in process and decided to accept! From that moment forward it was a sprint to complete the pieces, finalize the assembly and staging, and prepare for the big opening event.
This was my first time participating in an art exhibition, I learned a lot—about myself and my art, connected with beautiful people, and had an illuminating experience.
The artworks I submitted for the exhibition were all mixed media—a blend of ceramics, block-printing, design, painting, risograph, and sculpture, even adding an interactive component to one of the pieces. It was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding to see the end result and how people interacted with the pieces.

The Three of Swords represents heartbreak, sorrow, and the pain that often accompanies profound emotional experiences. This card symbolizes the wounds inflicted by betrayal, loss, or deep sadness, but it also speaks to the resilience and strength required to heal and grow from these experiences. Just as the heart is pierced by three swords, our own hearts can be tested by life's challenges, offering opportunities for reflection and transformation.
Reflect on a time when you experienced deep sorrow or heartbreak.
What did you learn from this experience?
Write about how you found strength and healing after a painful event.
What helped you move forward?
1. Take a piece of paper and a pen from the station.
2. Choose one of the prompts and take a few moments to reflect and write your response.
3. Once you have finished writing, fold your paper and insert it into the jar.
4. When the jar is filled, the papers will be placed into the sculpture through the slot in the back of the heart, symbolizing the collective healing and shared experiences of our emotional journeys.
